We need help in finding sports cards from 1879-1961

We can you use your help.  We are looking for old sports cards going back to the 1879 Old Judge Cigarettes baseball cards through 1961.  We are mostly interested in baseball but do like specialized cards in football, basketball and hockey.  On the rare occasion I would consider boxing and even tennis.

Can you lead us on a path to find some of these?

Some background:

Sports cards (especially baseball cards) are very popular but generally we are not very fond of cards made after 1961.  Why?  For one thing getting details on the number printed is not easy (if at all possible).  It is safe to say that what are considered "modern cards" (1970's to date) were massed produced.  Yes, there are "limited editions" but there is a tremendous number of "editions" flooding the market.  Today there are just so many varieties, it's hard to justify tieing up so much money in them.

However we are very fond of cards made prior to 1961. There is so much history involved especially when we focus on the players from the negro baseball league and players that had some Jewish heritage associated with them.

We are hoping that after young collectors gather all their current favorite heros, they will dig deeper into history and appreciate the richness of the history.  Richness does not necessarily mean the history was perfect by any means!  Black players were treated harshly when they broke into the majors.  We consider the early black players true American sports heros and we like to honor them.

Danny Spungen (of Jewish heritage) back in 1989 went to the National Sports Card Show in Chicago and thought it would be fun to assemble sports players of with Jewish ties.  Danny also thought that the number of players would be limited and easy to find them.  This proved not to be so accurate and the research led to some very interesting stories that continue to add to our passion in accumulating Jewish related players.

We cannot suggest such cards as "investment quality" but if you have a passion of old sports cards and your budget can support it.....Why Not!
